Why This Way?

Why Youth Ministry?

Adolescence is the most trying and difficult time of most people's lives when it comes to decision making, growing into adults, hormones, peer pressure, figuring out who one is, and the list goes on and on...

Each year teenagers are faced with more and more in schools and from the pressures of society, media, and the world around them.  We believe in a place for a separate Youth ministry apart from the ministries for adults because we need to specifically respond to the challenges that our Youth face in a way that is as relevant and effective as possible.

Is Youth Ministry Good Enough by Itself?

No.  The Bible teaches that the role for discipling children rests with parents.  We also believe that, and we DO NOT exist to take the place of that.  WE EXIST to assist parents as they disciple their children in the ways that God called them to.

We also do not desire to create a "different" experience from the whole church body that leaves Youth without feeling ties to the larger church family as a whole.

What are the Goals of this Youth Ministry?

The Goals of this Youth Ministry are to:

  1. Train and Disciple the Youth of First Baptist Welcome, NC to live out a lifelong faith that is based on the teaching of Scripture.

  2. To spread the message of the gospel to the teenagers who do not know Jesus in our own community.

  3. To be involved with what God is doing in our area, in our nation, and around the world.

  4. To grow in love for one another.

My defining goal as Minister of Students is to prepare students for life.  It is not to entertain them, it is not to shelter them, it is not to chaperone them (though I hope to do all of those within my roles).

My concern is not only who these students are at age 15, 16, 17, 18...but the foundation that they have been given, and whether or not that is good enough to withstand the trials of 19, 20, 21, 22...etc.

We have a lot of fun and enjoy one another, but our call is discipleship.
